Dental Instruments

We want visiting the dentist to be a comfortable experience at Ardas Family Dental in Parker, and we recognize that for most people, that means retaining a sense of agency. We use up-to-date technology in our office to provide patients with the best experience possible, but some people feel anxiety about ordinary dental instruments. We thought if patients knew how to talk about them, they would feel more relaxed.

The dental hygienists’ most important tools are the handheld mirror and the explorer. The explorer is the metal wand with a hook on each end that is used to investigate the hardness of enamel and the cleanliness of gum pockets. It is also used to scrape away tartar that has accumulated on teeth. A scaler is a kind of flattened hook that is used to clean bacteria out of gum pockets. Once the explorer has dislodged unwanted material, a vacuum hose called an evacuator is used to remove it.

Larger evacuators are used to remove debris from drilling. When a patient needs a filling, we will apply a localized anesthetic through a syringe and drill the decayed enamel away. The drill will emit water to prevent overheating. Once the decayed enamel is removed, we can replace it with a natural-colored non-toxic filling. The filling will be contoured using a blunt-tipped instrument called a burnisher, ensuring that it will not interfere with the patient’s bite.

Holiday Teeth Safety Tips from Ardas Family Dental

With so much sugar available during the holiday season, you may be wondering how you can protect your and your children’s teeth. At Ardas Family Dental in Parker, we want our patients to be able to enjoy socializing with treats and not have to worry about getting a toothache, so we put together some smart tips.

When food remains on the teeth for a long time, bacteria have longer to metabolize it and secrete acid. Bacteria can eat simple sugar more quickly, so the most dangerous foods are those which keep sugar in direct contact with teeth for a long time. Candy canes and other hard candies are chief among those, but another risk comes from sugary drinks such as eggnog, hot chocolate, caffeinated beverages with cream, and alcoholic beverages. Things that are full of simple sugars also tend to dry out the mouth, leaving it without saliva to rinse sugary residue or remove food debris.

You produce more saliva when you’re eating large meals, so it’s best to limit snacks to then, if possible. If social obligations demand that you snack over a long period, you can try chewing sugar-free gum to remove some sticky or starchy food from between your teeth. Alternating between sugary beverages and water will also help keep the mouth clean, so bring some bottles of fluoridated water with you if you’re traveling to somewhere that uses well water.

Adult Orthodontics in Parker, CO

Dr. Roopi Kattaura of Ardas Family Dental provides orthodontic care for adolescents and adults.  It is often recommended to start treatment on an adolescent patient once all the permanent teeth have come in, but adults can still get great results from orthodontic care.  There are several options for adults beginning orthodontic treatment, and the best one for you will depend on what needs to be corrected.

To correct bite issues and straighten teeth, the traditional braces method includes brackets on the teeth and connecting wires that are tightened over the course of treatment. Clear braces use the same method but the materials are tooth-colored to avoid a metallic look.  Accelerated orthodontics are applied to correct cosmetic issues in about six months. Severe misalignments and bite issues can’t be corrected in such a short time, but if your concerns are purely cosmetic, it’s a great option for a short treatment time that can completely transform your smile. Invisalign treatment is popular because of its almost invisible appearance.  A treatment plan consists of a series of clear aligners that straighten teeth over time.  Come see us and find out what will be best to correct your smile!

Smoking with Sleep Apnea

Smoking will exacerbate any respiratory condition, and it is proven to cause snoring and lead to obstructive sleep apnea.  Patients struggling with sleep apnea should see Dr. Roopi Kattaura and the staff of Ardas Family Dental for evaluation. We can help patients find relief from sleep apnea with a snore guard, but quitting smoking is up to you!

Smoking causes upper airway inflammation, meaning the swelling causes the airway to narrow and disrupts the flow of air to the nasal passage and throat.  This causes snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.  Cigarettes are highly addictive, and some smokers seek treatment for sleep apnea like a snore guard or CPAP machine, but continue to smoke. Smoking with sleep apnea not only puts more stress on the heart every day, but negates any treatment a sleep apnea patient is undergoing.

Habitual smokers may feel relaxed by one last cigarette for the day, but it actually creates more complications for restful sleep. Smokers can experience nicotine withdrawal overnight, causing more waking up and restlessness.  Quitting smoking cold turkey is very difficult, but even lessening the amount of cigarettes or avoiding smoking at nighttime can help you achieve more restful sleep.  Most smokers cannot quit on their own or on their first attempt, so don’t get discouraged!

To learn more about sleep apnea and the treatments we provide, please give us a call. To learn about services we provide at the practice, or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Roopi Kattaura of Ardas Family Dental, visit Restorative Dentist Parker, CO for more information or call 720-459-8420.

Different Types of Retainers

Congratulations! You’re on your way to completing orthodontic treatment and now it’s time to discuss retainers with Dr. Roopi Kattaura of Ardas Family Dental. There are three basic types of retainers that may be recommended based on your situation. Two of the retainer options are removable, while the third option is a more permanent fix. Allow us to tell you more about bonded, plastic, and removable retainers.

Retention after orthodontic treatment is critical. After all, you don’t want all of that hard work to go to waste. The most common retainer is known as the “Hawley retainer” – a thin, tongue-shaped piece of acrylic molded to fix your mouth, with a wire that holds the teeth in their correct position. There is also a clear plastic alternative. Bonded retainers, also known as fixed retainers, require a thin wire worn across the back of the lower or upper front teeth. Bonded retainers use a similar cement as traditional braces, for a permanent result. Regardless of which type of retainer you choose, each of them will be custom-made for your mouth only.

If you would like to inquire about our orthodontic options, please give us a call. To learn more about services we provide at the practice, visit Invisalign Dentist Parker, CO for more information. Drinking Water for Oral Health

Drinking water is important for your health at all ages.  At Ardas Family Dental  we see that plenty of adult patients that are guilty of not drinking enough water, so we know it can be tough to monitor if kids are getting enough too.  We want to encourage you and the kids in your family to stay hydrated and healthy!

We all know kids love drinking juice and soda, but we forget that these beverages leave unwanted sugar behind on the teeth.  The type of bacteria that causes cavities feeds on sugar, and produces acid that wears away enamel. Enamel is not replaceable, so it’s important to take care of it even from a young age.  When kids drink juice or soda, it is helpful just to drink some water afterwards to dilute acids and wash away food particles and residue. You and your children should be drinking at least eight 8oz glasses of water each day.  Drinking tap water with fluoride is important to help prevent cavities.  If you’re worried that your children may not be drinking enough water, come see us to discuss tips that might help them drink more!

We love to see good oral hygiene habits formed early, and make lifetime patients out of kids from our community!  To learn more about the services we offer, please give us a call. To learn about services we provide at the practice, or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Roopi Kattaura of Ardas Family Dental, visit Restorative Dentist Parker, CO for more information or call 720-459-8420.

Lumineers in Parker, CO

Smile imperfections can diminish our self-esteem and have us wishing for the smile we dream of. At Ardas Family Dental, Dr. Roopi Kattaura provides patients with Lumineers for the ultimate smile makeover experience. Lumineers are exclusive and extremely durable. With proper oral care and maintenance, Lumineers will resist wear and tear for up to 20 years.

Mini Implants at Ardas Family Dental

Mini implants are similar to regular implants but are smaller, often less than 2mm in diameter. If you are missing one or more teeth or experiencing discomfort with your dentures than mini implants can serve as long-term support. At Ardas Family Dental, Dr. Roopi Kattaura can provide support and guidance for denture patients and help educate them on the options available for improving their comfort and confidence.

The main use for mini implants is to install a full upper or lower denture. A series of mini implants (4-6) are placed along the gum line and they serve as the base of the denture. Rather than placing a single implant for a single tooth, an entire lower or upper set of teeth are directly attached to the gum line. The direct placement of mini implants through the gum with no incision allows for a minimally invasive procedure. The mini implants can usually be inserted right through the gum into the bone. This eliminates the need for a recovery period, and the restoration can usually be placed right away or only a short time after. Most patients experience immediate results and can often eat their first meal within a few hours.

Periodontal Treatments and Cirrhosis at Ardas Family Dental

Oral health is a critical component of overall health. At Ardas Family Dental in Parker, we recognize that people with gum disease are often fighting complicated health battles, and we want to help them. Lots of new research has come out in recent years indicating that improved oral health may improve a patient’s odds against other diseases, as well, which is why we’re passing along a study examining the link between gum disease and cirrhosis.

Cirrhosis is caused by inflammation of the liver that has become so chronic that the liver is covered in scar tissue. It causes inflammation throughout the body and cognitive decline. It is unsurprising that cirrhosis often occurs alongside gum disease since both can result from smoking and overuse of alcohol. But people with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, another cause of cirrhosis, also are at elevated risk for gum disease.

To investigate whether there is a causal link, scientists divided people with cirrhosis and gum disease into two groups: a control, and people who received periodontal therapy. They found that the people who got treated for gum disease had a significant reduction in cirrhosis symptoms, including inflammation, and cognitive decline. More research is this exciting area is needed, but in the meantime, we hope our patients will understand that good dental care could have life-changing results.

National Dental Hygiene Month Observance in Parker, CO

Everyone knows that brushing and flossing are essential, but could your technique use work? October is National Dental Hygiene Month. In honor of it, we at Ardas Family Dental in Parker want to remind our patients of the basics of good oral care.

While people can get good results from electric or manual toothbrushes, a manual toothbrush is only safe if it has soft bristles. Smaller electric toothbrush heads can be used on difficult-to-reach places. Brushing should be done twice a day, in two-minute sessions if using a manual toothbrush. The user should move the brush in horizontal ovals while brushing the outward-facing sides of their teeth and should make vertical strokes on the inward-facing sides. It is important to remember to brush near the gum line; that’s where plaque tends to accumulate. Parents should start brushing their babies’ teeth as soon as the first one erupts.

There are lots of American Dental Association-approved products for cleaning between the teeth. People should never attempt to pick their teeth with improvised devices. When using traditional floss, pull it along the side of each tooth, not just down the gap between them. Remember to floss the backs of your back teeth. You can improve your breath using mouthwash, but daily use of a tongue scraper is also a reliable way of cleaning out bacteria.

Dr. Roopi Kattaura operates Ardas Family Dental at 10233 S Parker Rd, Suite 205, Parker, Colorado. Call 720-459-8420 or visit Ardas Family Dental and fill out a contact sheet.

Treating TMD At Ardas Family Dental

The temporomandibular joint is a hinge that connects your jaw bone (mandible) to the temporal bones in your skull, in front of each ear.  A general term for any problem or issue with this joint is temporomandibular disorder, or TMD. Ardas Family Dental can help patients prevent and recover from negative effects of TMD.

Patients that grind or clench their teeth often end up with a sore jaw.  Other patients experience injuries with facial trauma that cause jaw pain, or result in the patient feeling their jaw gets stuck or ‘locks’ in either an open or closed position.  A custom night guard keeps the jaw in a neutral position during sleep, and this helps many patients find relief from TMD symptoms.  For any pain, your dentist may recommend an over-the-counter painkiller or warm and cold compresses.  To prevent further discomfort, you may be assigned stretches for your jaw.

Whatever your symptoms, you don’t have to suffer with discomfort in your jaw.  To learn more about TMD and the services provided at the practice, visit Kids and Family Dentist, Parker CO for more information. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Roopi Kattaura at Ardas Family Dental in Parker, CO, call 720-459-8420.

Clear Braces in Parker, CO

Ardas Family Dental sees adolescent and adult patients alike who are unhappy with the appearance of their smile.  Patients may desire a perfectly straight look for their smile, but aren’t in need of braces to correct any serious orthodontic issues.  We offer clear braces that can straighten teeth in the same manner as traditional braces, without the ‘metal mouth’ effect some patients dread.

Clear braces work to straighten teeth the same way traditional braces do, but without the metallic look.  Clear brackets are used along with wires the color of natural teeth.  The final look is not totally invisible, but is much more subtle than traditional silver braces and doesn’t look metallic.  The treatment time will vary, and this cosmetically pleasing straightening option gives any orthodontic patient the opportunity to achieve the perfectly straight smile braces result in.  The best way to determine if this treatment is right for you is a consultation with a dentist, so contact us if you want to improve your smile!

To learn more about clear braces and all the orthodontic treatments we provide, visit Kids and Family Dentist, Parker CO for more information. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Roopi Kattaura at Ardas Family Dental in Parker, CO, call 720-459-8420.

Inflammation and Implants in Parker, CO

Ardas Family Dental has provided many patients with tooth restorations, giving them a second chance at oral health. Dental implants bring several benefits, including increased jaw stability and vertical dimension. But implant-supported teeth need to be taken care of, or patients may fall prey to peri-implantitis.

Peri-implantitis is the name we give to inflammation of gum tissue surrounding an implant. When gum tissue is inflamed, it will be sore, red, puffy, and may bleed. It is possible that inflammation is being caused by a foreign object, such as leaking dental cement, or by an autoimmune condition, such as rheumatism. But in most cases, gum inflammation is due to a bacterial infection in the gum pocket. Bacteria excrete acid, which harms the gums, and if gingivitis turns into periodontal disease, gum tissue, jaw bone tissue, and the implant may all lose material.

Natural teeth might be salvageable if they become loose, but implants are not. If a patient’s jaw bone loses twenty percent of its mass surrounding an implant, the implant needs to be removed. The good news is that it is rare for peri-implantitis to progress this far. If a patient comes to see us as soon as they notice inflammation, we can provide them with a deep cleaning.

Types of Bridges at Ardas Family Dental

When patients need multiple teeth replaced, Ardas Family Dental in Parker is ready to provide them with dental bridges. This kind of prosthetic has improved a lot in recent years, so we want to ensure that our patients’ understanding of it is up-to-date.

The classic bridge is a series of linked crowns, of which the ones on the ends were placed over reshaped natural teeth. This shape has the benefits of maintaining the teeth’s alignment and of preserving the natural toothroots, eliminating the need for implants. The disadvantage is that it requires natural teeth to be reshaped into small cylinders for the artificial crowns to be cemented over, which may not be the best option if the natural teeth are still healthy.

Modern removable dentures can be fabricated with spaces for natural teeth, allowing more precise restorations. Some teeth may still have to be reshaped slightly to give the denture something to clasp onto and the denture will have to be refitted as the teeth shift, but no healthy teeth need to be extracted or severely reduced. Partial dentures can also be supported with mini-implants, which can be inserted without the incisions required for regularly-sized implants.

Pediatric Dentistry In Parker, CO

Ardas Family Dental is proud to serve the families from our community, and we want them to know it’s just as important for children to have regular dental visits.  A child’s first dental visit should be scheduled when the first baby tooth appears, or around the child’s first birthday.  Baby teeth eventually come out, but their growth and development is important for overall oral health for the child and the development of their adult teeth. Baby teeth should be brushed and cared for like adult teeth, and it’s important to monitor their growth and development.

Missing any tooth for too long can change the development of surrounding teeth and compromise the structure of the jaw bone, but regular checkups can keep a child’s tooth development right on track.  Our dentists are skilled and experienced in administering dental care to children.  If your child has seems nervous about seeing a dentist for the first time, we recommend going through a brushing routine with them at home, and talking about the dental visit before you arrive.  Once we get your child’s oral health off to a great start, we offer a full range of services for child patients including dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants.

We love to see good oral hygiene habits formed early, and make lifetime patients out of kids from our community!  To learn more about the services we offer, visit Kids and Family Dentist, Parker CO for more information. Makeover Your Smile With Veneers In Parker, CO

At Ardas Family Dental, we see a lot of patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their smile.  There are many cosmetic procedures available to correct tooth alignment or color, but veneers the best way to give your natural smile an overall makeover.  Veneers are thin porcelain shells that bond directly to the surface of your teeth, and give you the opportunity to completely change the appearance of your smile and still look natural.

Patients with cosmetic issues like staining, chipped or cracked teeth, and even crooked teeth and small gaps can achieve a dazzling smile with veneers.  Veneers can be applied in as little as two visits.  First, you and your dentist will discuss what shape and look is best for your new smile and an impression of your teeth will be taken.  This impression is sent to a dental lab where your veneers will be manufactured in order to custom-fit the final product.  Veneers can typically be fabricated within 14 days, and on your final visit the veneers are bonded to your teeth for you to wear for a lifetime.

To learn more about veneers and all the services we provide, visit Kids and Family Dentist, Parker CO for more information. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Roopi Kattaura at Ardas Family Dental in Parker, CO, call 720-459-8420.

Choosing between Electric and Manual Toothbrushes at Adras Family Dental

People have a bigger collection of dental hygiene products to choose from than ever before. This is good news for people with highly specific oral health needs, but the toiletries section of the store can also get confusing. This week, we at Ardas Family Dental in Parker are devoting our blog to the differences between manual and electric toothbrushes.

Electric toothbrushes make tens of thousands of brush strokes per minute, in contrast to manually operated toothbrushes, which can only make a few dozen. This creates a risk of overbrushing, but could also cut down on time. Studies have found that when a manual toothbrush is used properly, it is just as good at preventing tooth decay as an electric brush. But manual toothbrushes have to be used for at least two minutes per session, which can especially be a problem for people with motor neuron issues.

Electric toothbrushes are a bigger investment, but some are equipped with Bluetooth technology and apps that can help people with other problems. Besides warning the user if they are overbrushing, they can also point out if the user consistently misses a spot. Some are also designed to teach good hygiene habits to kids through mobile games. If a person frequently needs dental care for tooth decay, an electric toothbrush may save them money in the long run.

Combating Acid Reflux at Ardas Family Dental

If you suffer from acid reflux, your teeth may be in danger. We pride ourselves on patient education at Ardas Family Dental in Parker, which is why we want to inform the public of this often-overlooked cause of tooth sensitivity.

Acid removes minerals from enamel, the hard outer surface of teeth. Without enamel, the sensitive inner layers of the teeth are more exposed to heat and coldness. In people with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), the sphincter separating the stomach from the esophagus opens when a person swallows, allowing stomach acid to escape. Stomach acid is highly corrosive—the sensation of it burning the esophagus is misleadingly called “heartburn”—and it damages teeth it comes into contact with. Because of their position, the upper back teeth are the most vulnerable.

Dentists can recognize acid reflux by its distinctive pattern of erosion. It causes the teeth to appear glazed and white before becoming pitted. Dental sealants can help protect enamel, but once enamel mass has been lost, it can only be restored with prosthetics such as partial crowns. To reduce their chance of developing GERD, patients should avoid smoking and consuming large amounts of foods such as red meat, onions and garlic, and citric acid before lying down.

Whiten Your Smile at Ardas Family Dental

Dr. Roopi Kattaura of Ardas Family Dental offers teeth whitening to patients who need a confidence boost within his or her smile. Keeping our teeth white is a lot harder than it sounds, due to the pigmentation in foods and beverages we consume on a daily basis. Coffee, wine, and habits such as smoking, will stain our teeth and leave them lackluster. Meanwhile, teeth whitening can revitalize tooth enamel and bring the enamel back to its natural color.

At Ardas Family Dental, we offer a professional teeth whitening service that can be tailored to meet your needs. Dr. Roopi Kattaura can restore the color of your teeth, or even make them whiter than your natural color if that is what you desire. To help you achieve the bright smile that you desire, we utilize a tray system that is completed in two steps. This allows a safer, more comfortable environment for whitening because Dr. Kattaura can monitor progress every step of the way.

Pediatric Dental Sealants in Parker, CO

Children are prone to cavities typically because they have much more sugar in their diets these days at an early age than ever before. Cavities, also known as dental caries, are caused by specific germs that feed on sugar and produce acid that eats away at the structure of the teeth. Fortunately, Dr. Roopi Kattaura of Ardas Family Dental offers dental sealants to pediatric patients to seal out tooth decay before it begins.

Dental sealant consists of a safe, plastic material, which is placed on the chewing surface of the permanent back teeth to protect them from bacteria that contributes to tooth decay. When the dental sealant is applied to the molars, this reduces the risk of developing cavities by 80%. The process to apply dental sealant is painless and only takes a few minutes, including application and letting the sealant dry. Once sealant has been applied to the teeth, Dr. Roopi Kattaura will check on them during each appointment. With a rigorous oral care routine, the dental sealant can last up to 10 years.

If you are searching for a pediatric dentist, look no further and give us a call. To learn more about services we provide at the practice, visit Pediatric Dentist Parker, CO for more information. Support for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Gum Disease at Ardas Family Dental

Ardas Family Dental has long provided quality dental care to people in the Parker area with oral health complications. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a serious threat to oral health that the public isn’t always aware of, which is why we want to educate our patients about its consequences.

RA is an autoimmune disease, which means it causes the body’s immune system to attack healthy tissues. Specifically, it targets synovium, the soft tissue that lines the joints. People with RA have higher than average rates of periodontal disease, with one study finding 70% of people with RA have at least moderate gum disease. This had long been thought to be due to arthritis preventing people from brushing their teeth properly, but evidence suggests that’s not the whole story. Gingivitis often sets in before people with RA lose control of their motor skills and scientists have discovered that synovium and gum tissue share similar cellular structures.

People with RA need to be careful about their oral hygiene, but gum disease is not inevitable. Although RA is caused by genetic and environmental factors, people can reduce their risk for it by not smoking. Patients with RA should also ask us about preventing dry mouth, which is commonly caused by autoimmune disorders.

Dr. Roopi Kattaura operates Ardas Family Dental at 10233 S Parker Rd, Suite 205, Parker, Colorado. To learn more about periodontal disease, call 720-459-8420 or visit Ardas Family Dental and fill out a contact sheet.

Defend against White Spot Lesions at Ardas Family Dental

Without looking it up, can you name the first sign of tooth decay? It’s not pain; at that point, decay has already progressed enough to form a cavity. The first sign of tooth decay is a white spot lesion, which is why white spots are also known as incipient lesions.

Tooth decay is the result of acid being trapped in tartar. When bacteria have a lot to feed on, they produce acid as a result of their metabolism and rapidly multiply. Tooth enamel that has been exposed to acid turns white and chalky as it loses minerals. This can be seen in people with acid reflux as well as tooth decay. But while acid reflux first affects the upper back teeth, tooth decay is likelier to occur near the gum line, on the sides of teeth, and around orthodontic brackets.

White spots form very quickly and can lead to more serious decay in as few as thirty days. Patients should keep a close watch for them and change their brushing habits to remove them before they become permanent. However, if a white spot does develop, it may be possible to remineralize or simply cover up with a veneer once the infection is stopped.

Learn the Basics of Oral Care from Ardas Family Dental

A good dental hygiene routine begins with products that you are excited to use. After visiting Dr. Roopi Kattaura at Ardas Family Dental, she will give you a treat bag filled with toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, and a new toothbrush to put it all to work once you’re finished. To get the most out of your oral care routine, we are here to remind you of the basics to prevent periodontal disease, tooth decay, and other dental diseases.

Brushing – For two minutes, gently brush the outer surfaces of the enamel and the chewing surfaces of the teeth. Tilt the brush vertically to make several up and down strokes and work the brush in a rotating motion. If you can’t make it through a whole two minutes, try making it fun and play a song!

Flossing – Since the toothbrush won’t clean food particles between the teeth, one should clean between the teeth at least once a day.

Rinsing – Different types of mouthwash have different types of beneficial properties, but they are designed to reduce bad breath odor in the mouth. Adding a rinse to your routine is optional, but it doesn’t do any harm!

Additionally, don’t forget to clean your tongue, either with your toothbrush and a dab of toothpaste or with a tongue scraper tool. Doing so will eliminate plaque buildup that festers on the tongue, leaving it feeling cleaner and you without the worry of having bad breath.

Implant Dentistry at Ardas Family Dental

If you are looking for a permanent solution for restoring missing teeth, look no further than Ardas Family Dental for Dental Implants. If you are self-conscious because of a toothless smile, wear dentures that are uncomfortable, or find it difficult to chew or speak because of these issues, dental implants are a safe, effective, and long-term option for restoring your smile.

A dental implant is a titanium screw that acts as a permanent new root for a missing tooth. Once the implant is placed into the jaw bone, an abutment and crown are placed on the implant to provide a new tooth that resembles your natural one. A local anesthetic will be administered to the patient so that he or she doesn’t feel any pain, and when cared for properly, implants can last up to ten years. The implant must be allowed 3-6 months to heal, so it’s definitely a process you’ll need to commit to. If you are ready to discuss your restorative dental options, schedule a consultation today.

If you have questions or concerns regarding restorative dental services or dental implants, please give us a call. To learn about services we provide at the practice, or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Roopi Kattaura of Ardas Family Dental, visit Restorative Dentist Parker, CO for more information or call 720-459-8420.

Losing the First Tooth In Parker, CO

If your kid is turning into a big kid, losing the first baby tooth is on the horizon.  It’s an exciting sign of growing up, but many kids still feel anxious or uncomfortable dealing with the unfamiliar sensation of a loose tooth.  Ardas Family Dental wants kids and parents to be prepared and understand why this pain occurs so your child can still have a positive tooth loss experience.

Before a baby tooth is lost, it begins to break free of its nerve endings.  This is the natural process that makes the tooth feel loose and wobbly at the gums, and the area will become swollen and red.  It can be painful, and for kids a great way to soothe tooth pain is applying a cold compress to the outside of the mouth in the affected area.  Children may complain that they find it hard to bite or chew with loose or missing teeth.  It’s still important to keep eating healthy while they grow new teeth so encourage soup, pureed fruits, and cooked vegetables.  A few tales of the tooth fairy can usually ease the pain a little, too!

Regular Teeth Cleanings In Parker, CO

Ardas Family Dental encourages patients to maintain a great oral health routine at home, but it is still important to come into the office for biannual professional cleanings.  The Academy of General Dentistry recommends you have a dentist or hygienist perform a dental cleaning every six months. Even when you regularly brush and floss, some harmful bacteria grow in your mouth that cause gum disease and can only be removed by a dental professional.

It’s important to see a professional regularly to locate and monitor areas in the mouth that may need special attention, and a dentist can tell you if you may be neglecting an area in the mouth or skipping an important step in your regular oral care routine. At a cleaning, a hygienist uses professional tools to remove plaque, tartar, and bacteria build-up from your teeth that is too tough to remove on your own.  The teeth above and below the gum line are both thoroughly cleaned with scaling tools to rid them of plaque and tartar. After the surfaces of the teeth are cleaned, the hygienist flosses between every one of your teeth and may apply fluoride if recommended by the dentist. If you need your teeth cleaned, don’t wait any longer!

Restorative Dental Services in Parker, CO

Restorative dental services involve the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of oral diseases. At Ardas Family Dental, our restorative services include bridges, dental crowns, dentures, and bonding/white fillings. These procedures are designed to enhance the aesthetics of a patient’s smile while restoring a tooth back to its natural function. If you have teeth that are missing, damaged, cracked, or chipped, Dr. Roopi Kattaura has a treatment option to suit your needs.

The goal of restorative dentistry is to preserve a patient’s natural teeth as much as possible. If a patient has missing teeth, Dr. Kattaura may suggest a bridge or a denture appliance because teeth that are non-existent will put additional stress on the remaining teeth because the patient won’t have much of a chewing surface. Dental bonding and white fillings are used to repair chips, cracks, and fractures in the teeth while restoring the teeth to their natural function. A dental crown may be suggested to strengthen a tooth to restore shape or structure and will improve its appearance as well as alignment. If you would like to discuss your restorative options, schedule a consultation with Dr. Roopi Kattaura.

If you have questions or concerns regarding restorative dental services, please give us a call. To learn about services we provide at the practice, or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Roopi Kattaura of Ardas Family Dental, visit Restorative Dentist Parker, CO for more information or call 720-459-8420.

Tooth Extractions at Ardas Family Dental

If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay and Dr. Roopi Kattaura of Ardas Family Dental can’t fix it with a filling, a dental crown, or dental bonding, the tooth may require extraction. Extraction is necessary when the damage of a tooth is beyond repair and the tooth can’t be saved. There are two types of extraction Dr. Kattaura may perform – simple or surgical. A simple extraction is exactly what it says it is, while a surgical extraction is a bit more complex.

During a simple extraction, Dr. Kattaura will loosen the tooth with an instrument called an elevator and use forceps to remove the tooth. This will require minimal sedation and the patient should have a smooth and quick recovery. A surgical extraction may be used for wisdom teeth removal and will involve Dr. Kattaura making a small incision into the gum to surgically remove the tooth. Surgical extractions tend to cause more pain after the procedure than their simple counterpart, but as long as you follow post-operative instructions, the recovery process will end before you know it.

If you have questions or concerns regarding oral surgery services or wisdom teeth removal please give us a call. To learn about services we provide at the practice, or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Roopi Kattaura of Ardas Family Dental, visit Restorative Dentist Parker, CO for more information or call 720-459-8420.

Pain From Braces In Parker, CO

At Ardas Family Dental, we see many smiles transformed with braces.  We also know braces are a long process and that there is some pain and discomfort along the way.  Patients with braces often feel a little discomfort after their wires have been tightened, and patients with new braces usually experience some uncomfortable chafing as their mouth gets used to braces.  These are both normal occurrences and you can ease the pain while getting to your perfect smile!

With a new set of braces, the insides of cheeks and lips will rub against the brackets and wires.  The soft tissue will toughen as your mouth gets accustomed to the braces, but at first it can create sore spots.  Orthodontic wax is a great defense against this.  Just a small piece can cover the edge of a bracket and relieve any chafing.  After a set of braces is tightened a patient will also feel some pain and soreness.  The patient should eat soft foods right after a tightening if they are experiencing discomfort.  If the pain continues, over-the-counter pain relievers like Advil and Motrin are helpful.  Please still contact the office if you experience any extreme or long-lasting discomfort.

To learn more about our orthodontic options and all the services we provide, visit Kids and Family Dentist, Parker CO for more information. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Roopi Kattaura at Ardas Family Dental in Parker, CO, call 720-459-8420.

Bone Grafting for Dental Implants In Parker, CO

A bone graft is the term for harvesting bone material from a healthy location and grafting it to a location that is broken or weakened.  The doctors at Ardas Family Dental use this method to strengthen jaw bones in preparation for dental implants.

Missing a tooth for an extended period of time can leave the jaw bone vulnerable and compromise its structure.  When a patient needs an implant for a permanent replacement tooth, a bone graft reinforces the jaw bone so it is strong enough to handle the placement of an implant.

In one procedure, bone material is harvested from a healthy location in the patient’s mouth and grafted to the compromised area of the jaw bone.  This strengthens the weakened bone, and encourages growth of new bone material as it heals.  After the procedure, the bone graft will be monitored over the course of months.  When the jaw bone has strengthened enough to handle the placement of an implant, our doctors can move forward with the patient’s plan of care.

To learn more about bone grafting and all the services we provide, visit Kids and Family Dentist, Parker CO for more information. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Roopi Kattaura at Ardas Family Dental in Parker, CO, call 720-459-8420.

Preventive Dentistry in Parker, CO

Preventive dentistry helps patients of all ages keep their smiles healthy for years to come. Dr. Roopi Kattaura of Ardas Family Dental understands that sometimes, the habit of brushing and flossing your teeth may become boring and uneventful. Our goal is to put the fun back into your oral hygiene routine because we believe that patients shouldn’t take their teeth for granted. We can provide preventive oral care strategies for children and adults.

Fluoride treatment, diet, and regular dental visits are just a few preventive measures that patients should take to keep their oral health in optimal shape. Dr. Roopi Kattaura encourages patients to stay away from sugars, carbohydrates, and junk foods that will damage tooth enamel and make gums sensitive. If you don’t visit the dentist on a regular basis, you put yourself at risk for developing cavities, periodontal disease, and potential tooth loss. Here at Ardas Family Dental, we can help you establish a dental hygiene routine that will keep your teeth white and your gums healthy.

If you have questions or concerns regarding preventive dentistry, please give us a call. To learn more about services we provide at the practice, visit General Dentist Parker, CO for more information or call 720-459-8420.

Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery in Parker, CO

Patients who are unhappy with their smiles for a variety of reasons come to Dr. Roopi Kattaura for a solution.  The look of your smile includes the gums, and even when a patient’s teeth are healthy they may feel their gums keep them from a perfect smile.  Cosmetic periodontal surgery is a chance for all patients to achieve the look they desire.

Cosmetic periodontal surgery is the process of sculpting a patient’s gum line.  A procedure can include removing gum tissue, grafting gum tissue, or both. Patients with excess gum tissue may have a gummy smile, and this can be removed with a scalpel tool or laser to expose more of the tooth.  Elongated teeth are the result of gums that have receded.  In these cases, gum tissue is harvested from a healthy location in the patient’s mouth (usually the roof of the mouth) and grafted onto the area lacking tissue.  The end result is an even, stunning smile!

Oral Cancer Screenings in Parker, CO

Dr. Roopi Kattaura of Ardas Family Dental knows it is important that you and your family are aware of the risk of oral cancer.  Oral cancer screening may not be the most common reason you’ve visited a dentist, but regular screenings are the best way to protect yourself.

Heavy smoking and drinking do increase the risk of oral cancer, but oral cancer can still occur if someone never smokes.  The human papilloma virus (HPV) was recently found to be responsible for most oral cancers that originated in the back of the mouth.  Because there is no way to predict cancer, you should ask about an oral cancer screening with each dental checkup.  Your dentist will conduct a visual exam, and may use an ultraviolet light to see any irregularities inside the mouth. Always contact us if you notice any inexplicable pain, swelling, or numbness in your throat or jaw.

If you have questions or concerns regarding oral cancer screenings, please give us a call. To learn more about services we provide at the practice, visit General Dentist Parker, CO for more information or call 720-459-8420.

Caring for Invisalign

Ardas Family Dental is proud to offer Invisalign, the clear alternative to braces.  Clear aligners require less maintenance and won’t prevent you from eating certain foods, but there are still guidelines you should follow to wear and care for your aligners.  You should remove Invisalign each time you eat, but if you do eat anything while wearing the aligners make sure to clean them thoroughly afterwards. It is also best to brush and floss your teeth before putting the aligners back in.  Ideally when wearing clear aligners, you would only drink water. Colorful drinks can stain the aligners and too many hot drinks can eventually warp the plastic.  If you do drink anything other than water while wearing the aligners you should rinse them with warm water afterwards.

Cleaning the clear aligners regularly is important for your teeth and straightening treatment.  Clear aligners can become discolored over time without losing their effectiveness, but the color can show on your own teeth and continue to darken.  Invisalign offers its own brand of cleaning solution, and there are several soaking solutions available over the counter, but brushing the aligners is also a sufficient cleaning option.  Do not use toothpaste to brush the aligners because subtle abrasive properties of toothpaste could harm the aligner.  It is best to use mild dish soap and a soft bristle brush to clean the aligners each time you brush your teeth.

Oral Surgery in Parker, CO

With age, comes wisdom and so does our final set of teeth. Wisdom teeth are the third and final molars to develop in the mouth between the ages of 17-22. Wisdom teeth can be problematic if they are impacted and have no room to grow. Dr. Roopi Kattaura of Ardas Family Dental is likely to suggest extraction to prevent future dental complications and eliminate the risk of developing an infection.

Under the care of Dr. Roopi Kattaura and her expert team, you and your family can rest easy knowing that you are in safe hands throughout your visit. We understand that wisdom teeth extraction may sound scary, but it’s best to have them removed to avoid headaches, constant pain in the back of the mouth, and/or damage to the surrounding teeth. Before making any decisions to extract wisdom teeth, Dr. Kattaura will examine the mouth and take an X-ray.

If you have questions or concerns regarding wisdom teeth extractions, please give us a call. To learn more about services we provide at the practice, visit Oral Surgery Parker, CO for more information or call 720-459-8420.

Traditional Braces

At Ardas Family Dental, we provide patients with orthodontic options so that they can have a choice during the teeth straightening process. After all, you will be wearing them for a lengthy period of time. While less noticeable orthodontics like Invisalign may seem like a better choice for those who self-conscious, our doctors would like to explain the benefits of traditional braces.

It can be a challenge to decide which choice is best for your orthodontic needs, which is why our doctors at Ardas Family Dental are here to help you every step of the way. The obvious disadvantage of traditional braces is a “metal mouth” appearance, but traditional braces are very effective in treating wide cases of malocclusion. In addition, today’s braces are more visually appealing than ever before due to the range of color options for both the brackets and the elastics. With this method of treatment, you are also less likely to misplace your aligners because the wires are always on your teeth.

If you would like to inquire about our orthodontic options, please give us a call. To learn more about services we provide at the practice, visit Invisalign Dentist Parker, CO for more information. To schedule an appointment with one of our doctors at Ardas Family Dental in Parker, CO, call 720-459-8420.

Pain around Fillings

Patients with toothaches have nothing to fear at Ardas Family Dental. We provide fillings that are high-quality and made to blend in with the patient’s tooth color, ensuring that the aesthetic value of their smile will be restored along with their health. Nevertheless, we do need our patients to inform us if they are experiencing any problems in the area near a filling so we may correct it before it fails.

Removing infected material is crucial for a tooth’s long-term comfort, but a tooth will probably be sensitive for a few days after the material is removed. This discomfort should not last more than two days. If it does, the filling may have shrunk and not be sufficient to make up for the lost material. If the filling is preventing the patient from fully clothing their teeth together, there is definitely a problem, which can be fixed by contouring the filling more closely.

Fillings usually last for about ten years. The bonding which holds them in place breaks down over time, and after about ten years, there is a risk that bacteria will be able to enter the cracks and resume causing decay. Patients can prevent this from happening by maintaining regular check-ups. If an old filling does start to hurt or can be felt coming loose, do not hesitate to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

Dr. Roopi Kattaura operates Ardas Family Dental at 10233 S Parker Rd, Suite 205, Parker, Colorado. To learn more about diabetes and oral health, call 720-459-8420 or visit Ardas Family Dental in Parker CO, Aurora, CO, Lone Tree CO.
